How Stripe fees work
Stripe's standard US card fee is 2.9% plus $0.30 per successful charge. That means a $100 payment costs $3.20 in fees — $2.90 percentage plus the $0.30 fixed component — leaving you $96.80. The fixed part matters most on small payments: on a $10 charge, fees eat 5.9% instead of 2.9%.
Other payment methods and situations cost more: international cards add around 1.5%, currency conversion adds about 1%, ACH and some wallets have their own pricing. Always check the specific pricing for the payment method you will use — this calculator lets you adjust the rate.
Pricing tips
- Account for the fixed fee when pricing low-ticket products — bundle small items.
- Build fees into your price; explicit surcharges are restricted on credit cards.
- Compare Stripe with PayPal (3.49% + $0.49) and square — the fixed fees differ.
